About Us
PURPOSE:
The Northwest District 4-H Horse Council works to provide quality horse shows, clinics, knowledge competitions and other educational events for 4-H members in our district as part of the Virginia State 4-H Horse Program. This Horse Council is open to all Virginia adult and youth 4-H horse project members and volunteers in the Northwest District.
The Northwest District 4-H Horse Council is comprised of volunteer leaders from 20 counties. Together, these volunteers provide youth involved in horse projects many educational and competitive events throughout the year, including district qualifying shows and clinics, and district level Horse Bowl, Hippology and Horse Judging Contests. The Council also provides money for county-level project book scholarships and plays an active role in shaping state policies and procedures within the 4-H Horse Program.
Any registered 4-H volunteer, parent, extension agent, or senior 4-H member is welcome to attend the Council meetings. Each county has two voting members, which are designated by the county agent. Officers are elected every two years. To be considered for an officer position, members must have at least one year of active membership in the Council. Please read the by-laws for further information. Officer elections are held at the February meeting.
Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the even months (Feb, April, June, August, Oct & Dec) at 7 p.m. Meetings are held virtually via Zoom.
